George St Pierre Training Program – How to Train Like an MMA Champion with Rushfit
Are you looking to train like a true MMA fighter champion? Look no further, because the ‘Rushfit’ George St Pierre training program might be just what you’re looking for.
GSP himself works on his muscle endurance, but he is also well known for his ‘explosive’ workouts. These are short bursts of anaerobic exercises such as sprinting that are vital in real fight situations.
His very own Rushfit program consists of MMA conditioning techniques, but it also combines this with body strength workouts and circuit training exercises. Even George St-Pierre himself says he struggles to complete the entire thing.
George St Pierre Training Routine – George’s Workout Routine
“I have to stop sometimes because it’s too much for me,” says the man from Montreal.
He isn’t joking around, either. The program is designed for people of all ages, but you have to tailor it to your own needs. I myself am a 32-year-old and I like to keep fit with regular running. I would say my cardio fitness is good for my age, but I struggled to keep up with the intensity of some of the workouts when I tried out the Rushfit George St Pierre training camp myself.
“There is no magic pill.”
George gets straight to the point when he addresses an important issue in the DVDs. Many people want some magic bullet to lose weight. They want it to happen instantly, but they lack the determination to make it happen through their own efforts. He makes sure you’ll be under no such assertions right from the start of his training boot camp.
Having said that, I understand most people won’t put their own bodies through the kind of training that George himself goes through. He is widely acknowledged as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters on the planet. While the Rushfit George St Pierre training program does cover MMA training techniques, it isn’t precisely the workout that George goes through each and every day.
Rushfit George St Pierre Training Program – An Overview
The Rushfit program consists of six DVDs with seven workouts within. George ‘Rush’ St-Pierre collaborated with Erik Owings, another MMA fighter, a colleague and friend of George’s for a long time. In fact, most of the exercises are actually led by Erik, but it’s beneficial in that you get to see George St-Pierre doing the exercises himself, and you can copy his technique. Occasionally Erik will correct some technique or stance, and George will respond, ‘Yes, sir!’ It’s most likely scripted, but it’s fun to watch in any case and may help you iron out any problems with positioning and stance you may come across.
All YOU need to complete the training program is a set of dumbbells, and hopefully a little space in which to work out. This is something anybody can afford and it makes the program very accessible. Each workout begins with a 10-minute warm up routine, followed by 5 sets of 5-minute rounds. This may not sound like much, but it’s high intensity and is followed quickly with a 5-minute cool-down period. So each circuit is less than an hour in length, and the whole program is designed to last 8 weeks.
If you follow it to the letter, you are promised to build more muscle, lose weight and get in shape. Thankfully, there are beginner, intermediate and advanced versions of the George St Pierre training camp. Each one requires you to work out 5 times a week, but of course the advanced is performed at a greater intensity than the beginner series.
What Else Is Included?
Also included is a nutritional plan, which can help a lot of folks as this is just as important as exercising, and a lot of people let themselves down in this department. It makes it much easier when you are provided with a detailed nutritional plan of action.
Of course, if you have an interest in mixed martial arts fighting then you can also go through the fight conditioning workouts. I found this part difficult, but it includes punches, grappling and kicks.
Plyometrics is another route you can go down, another staple of fight conditioning workout routines.
