What is C4 Extreme Pre Workout?

I’ve written a lot on this site, but so far I haven’t got into my experiences with pre-workout supplements. If you’re wondering what the C4 Extreme Pre Workout supplement is all about, then I’m going to answer that today, along with some other concerns about using supplements in general.

I’m going to be reviewing Cellucor C4 Extreme soon and later on I’ll review some other pre-workout supplements to compare it with, such as NO Explode from BSN, which I have used before.

As you may know from this site, I love finding new workouts to try out and diving right in. Lately I’ve been wanting to add some extra boost to my workout results and I’ve been looking into these supplements to provide that.

What is C4 Extreme Pre-Workout Supplement About?

First off, what is a pre-workout supplement anyway?

These supplements are proprietary formulas with ingredients such as caffeine and creatine that are designed to give you energy and improve your performance in workouts.

People generally tend to take these dietary supplements to promote weight loss, enhance muscular weight gain and even replace meals.

Some supplements are sold in ‘stacks’. These are blends of various supplements that are said to have a synergistic effect.

C4 Extreme is also known as Cellucor C4 Extreme. Cellucor is the company behind the product. They’ve been around since 2002, but have recently risen to prominence.

C4 Extreme is a single product, not a stack. Cellucor has a range of products and they are designed to be stacked with each other if you need the extra boost, although you should be careful doing so.

C4-SuppEvery pre-workout supplement will have its own set of unique ingredients that sets it apart from others.

C4 Extreme contains Creatine Nitrate, also known as NO3. This compound is advertised as being able to boost muscle pumps and amplify the power of the supplement.

Muscle pumps are when blood flows into your muscles and it typically gives you a good feeling. Your muscles will look and feel bigger and firmer while your muscles are pumped. You don’t need supplements to feel this, and there is no evidence that this enhances your muscle growth in any way.

It comes in a variety of flavors – some of the ingredients will be different, but only to affect the flavor. So no matter what flavor you choose, you will get the same results for your workout.

The different flavors have different gram weights as a result of the changes in ingredients, and different prices too. Just choose whichever one appeals to you most. They are all delicious but some may appeal to you more than others.

Are Pre-Workout Supplements Safe?

You may have concerns over whether pre-workout supplements are safe to consume on a regular basis, and that’s a natural concern to have.

Many products are quite new and therefore there won’t be a lot of historical data on the effects they may have on your health, so the decision is yours. However, you can find many stories of people taking supplements over long periods of time without any ill effects, and indeed these people enjoy great benefits from taking supplements.

Typical pre-workout supplement drinks will have many ingredients, such as caffeine and creatine. Usually there will be a lot of scientific research that supports the fact these ingredients are safe to take, although there may be listed side effects as well. Creatine and caffeine for example are known these days to be pretty safe to take.

Why Do People Take Pre-Workout Supplements?

C4-muscleWhile post-workout nutrition (such as protein powders) and supplementation is key, many people overlook the importance of pre-workout supplements.

People take pre-workout supplements because it improves their performance during the workout, and also can affect your muscle growth.

If you don’t get the proper nutrition before your workout, you will be running on empty. Your body will run out of glycogen and turn to your muscles for further energy, which is exactly what you don’t want to happen.

That’s why it’s twice as important to get that pre-workout nutrition done properly. You need energy, and you need to perform well enough to break down muscle fibers (and stimulate them to build new muscle mass).
